Back
Hip hinge with a stick
Teaches safe bending for lifting and daily tasks
How to do it
- 1Stand tall holding a stick or broom along your spine, touching your head, upper back and tailbone.
- 2Soften your knees and push your hips back as you tilt forward from the hips.
- 3Keep the stick touching all three points; go as far as your hamstrings allow.
- 4Return by squeezing your buttocks.
Stop if the stick loses contact with your lower back, which means the spine is rounding.
